President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Viktor Maygurov spoke about the problems of equipping the Russian team with the necessary equipment that arose after the departure of foreign suppliers.
On Monday, the State Duma of the Russian Federation is holding a round table on the topic “Problems and prospects for the development of the national sports industry in modern conditions.”
– As for textiles, we take care of the equipment. Including on the modalities of parallel imports. As for skis, all companies that supplied our athletes have officially left the Russian Federation. And if the RBU somehow provides teams, our regional federations face difficulties. But this is not the most pressing problem. The sharpest is the ammunition. We were 80% dependent on foreign suppliers. And now there are no deliveries for several months. Our low quality producers have doubled the cost. We have a factory that produces high quality cartridges. But their capacity is 1 million per year, and our needs are 15 million. They can’t find the money to modernize production. We inquired about imports. It will cost 20 million euros, that’s a lot of money, and it’s unlikely anyone will pull this story.
When it comes to weapons, we ran into this issue recently. Now we have made changes to weapon certification. In our country, and in bullet shooting, all weapons are of individual production. With this gun certification legislation, our sport can now be shut down. We have prepared a letter to the Ministry of Sports to hold a joint meeting with the Russian Guard to resolve this issue as soon as possible. We need government support to solve our problems,” Maygurov said.
