“If Russian biathletes have their own sports equipment, it will be a big plus, but everything takes time” – Ishmuratova

Double Olympic champion Svetlana Ichmuratova in an interview with , she expressed the opinion that several years should pass before the production of high-quality biathlon equipment is established in the country.

Earlier, the President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU), Viktor Maigurov, during a round table in the State Duma of the Russian Federation, spoke about the difficulties in providing athletes with the necessary equipment , stating that the main problem is the lack of ammunition.

– This question has been asked before. Because if, for example, we are talking about Austrian skis (for example, the same Fischer), then the very first in line here is the local Austrian team. They give them skis – they back them up, watch them, spin them around and, of course, choose the best ones. Of the remaining goods, the German team is already choosing the best, and then we look at what remains after them. Even then, everyone knew it and thought about it.

The same situation was with cartridges. And we bought Anschutz R-100 and R-50 cartridges. It is clear that each rifle has its own cartridges. There was a certain dependency there. Now, I hope, we will nevertheless come to the point that we ourselves will do a lot for the development of sport, for our top biathletes and for grassroots sports. If we have our own equipment, it will be a big plus. I would like to start production. And already, when everything is debugged, I hope we can compete with international manufacturers,” Ishmuratova told .

– How long can this process take?

– I think a lot. It must also be taken into account that a lot of time has already been lost. I remember the end of the 90s and the beginning of the 2000s: there, we all looked at what was better and what was not. I remember trying home Olymp cartridges. Somehow they tried to solve these problems here, but apparently they gave up halfway because it was very difficult to compete with other companies.

For everything on everything, if we do it now, it will probably take five years. Maybe more. Everything takes time. Because it is not so easy to put your own equipment into production.

It is clear that previous contacts for the purchase of sports equipment have been established with foreign suppliers. Naturally, they were interested. Of course, they didn’t want to see Russia as a competitor in the production and sale of this inventory.

But if we have clear instructions and a schedule up to a certain point (roughly until 2025, so that we can compete with international companies), I think in principle our people can do anything. There would be a desire.

Russian and Belarusian athletes are not allowed to compete under the auspices of the International Biathlon Union (IBU). They are now competing in the Pari Commonwealth Cup, the next stage of which will take place in Raubichi (Belarus) from January 26 to 29. Watch live broadcasts of the competitions on the channel, websites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru. The program “Biathlon with Dmitry Guberniev” will be broadcast between races on January 29 at 1:00 p.m.
