Russian national team biathlete Daniil Serokhvostov in an interview with , he said that he had no conflict with trainer Artem Istomin because he did not listen to his opinion and decided to participate in the race immediately after his illness and without training .
Serokhvostov took third place in the sprint on December 17 at the Russian Cup stage in Ufa. Before this race, the biathlete was ill and did not train.
– Sprint in Ufa you got sick. Istomin didn’t agree to you taking the start under such conditions. Why did you decide to run?
I was sick for four days, but by then I felt better. I thought it made no sense to skip the race if there was no more pain, the throat had stopped hurting, there was no temperature either. It is clear that for four days the patient lay and did nothing. The body was weakened, but then the load could be perceived normally. I didn’t want to leave the race because I felt good that day. I thought that after this race I would obviously not get sick, and it happened.
But after the race I struggled to recover, for three days I felt bad. I barely reached the finish line, I was dying at the end. But he did not regret his decision. It doesn’t matter if I take first place or not. The main thing is that he did a great job, including at the corner, and on the last lap he tried to get out of a difficult situation. At the start, I had planned from the first lap to go very hard. I understood that in this state I would not give the last lap to the maximum. And saving energy in the first two rounds makes no sense in this case. I’m just happy with the work done, that everything went well for me in this race, and that the place wasn’t so important anymore.
– Because of your decision to go to the start in this state, there was no conflict with the coach?
No, there was no dispute. The coach expresses his opinion, then we decide for ourselves. For example, freezing in Khanty-Mansiysk. The coach strongly advised us not to run, but we ran. And in Uvat he also said: “The choice is yours, but we recommend that you do not run.” In the end, we ran, and it’s fine, we didn’t die.
