2013 world champion, bronze medalist of the Vancouver Olympics in cross-country skiing, and now Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Kursk region Alexei Petukhov told what he remembered from the Race of Stars -2022 in Luzhniki.
In 2023, the “Star Race” with the participation of Russian legends of cross-country skiing and biathlon will be held in Luzhniki on February 4-5.
— What do you remember from Race of the Stars 2022?
– First of all, I would like to thank Moskomsport for its organization. When he himself was a professional athlete, world-class ski competitions were held in Luzhniki. But Race of the Stars is a different format, unique in many ways. Television accessibility, spectator stands, a simplified shooting algorithm, low-difficulty circles that allow young runners to participate in races alongside famous athletes. Pairs of participants will be completed according to the principle “star – young athlete”, but if last year the skiers also had to shoot, this time the ski and biathlon races will take place on different days. The composition of the participants should be very strong: Cherezov, Devyatyarov, Panzhinsky, Legkov, Dementiev, Shipulin, Zaitseva, Bogaliy, Podchufarova and others.
Is this the purpose of the promotion?
– And motivation. The current 15-year-old guys have everything ahead of them, I’m sure international doors will open for them, so communicating and starting with the stars is great motivation. I know from my own experience when I came as a child to the “northern vacation” in the “valley of comfort”, I ran for autographs to our legends and abroad, but I could not even dream of races municipalities. Now, thanks to Moskomsport, FLGR (Russian Ski Racing Federation) and RBU (Russian Biathlon Union), such an opportunity exists. State Duma deputies, in particular the heads of the sports committee Dmitry Svishchev and Anton Shipulin, also fully support the idea.
– How are the children selected to take part in the “Race of the Stars”?
– Special qualifying starts took place. The best will have the opportunity to perform in Luzhniki.
– How did you shoot last year, given your specialization in skiing?
– As a child, I started biathlon, I came to train in Murmansk from the regional city of Kola. It went well. Then they said to me, “While the adult uncles are running around, don’t be shy.” The ardor in biathlon was abruptly reduced to nothing, but in shooting he was never considered to lag behind.
In the “Race of the Stars”, I got three out of five, if I’m not mistaken. Of course, there was a nuance. The penalty circle is small, it was quicker to miss and run than to aim long, so I compensated for mistakes at the turn with my feet. They took second place with Tatyana Martsiva. At the same time, she herself is a good skier, otherwise she should hit five out of five.
Alexey Petukhov at the 2010 Olympics won bronze in the team sprint. Also in this discipline, he has the gold of the 2013 World Cup and the silver of the 2015 World Cup.
