Olympic cross-country skiing champion Veronika Stepanova commenting on the statement of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the participation of Russians in international tournaments, she quoted the British politician Winston Churchill.
On Wednesday, the IOC said it would consider admitting neutral Russian and Belarusian athletes who do not actively support the CBO to international competitions. In most sports, against the background of the situation in Ukraine, Russian athletes were deprived of the opportunity to participate in international tournaments.
– I am sure that we will return to international competitions, all together or not at all. I’m an optimist and don’t see much advantage in being anything else, as one British political leader once said (Winston Churchill – ed.). He also tried to hold the Russians back and not let them in. Only he, unlike current Western politicians, was realistic and knew the limits of his abilities,” Stepanova said on the Telegram channel, signing the message “The IOC continues to impress with a lot of noise without details”.
Stepanova won the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics as part of the women’s relay.
