Watch the program “Biathlon with Dmitry Guberniev” on January 29 at 1:00 p.m.
– You were planning to participate in the 60 km marathon in Kamchatka this year. How often do you run such marathons?
– This year, I don’t know yet, but the two previous years, I ran this marathon, yes. The first time I did very well, I came the second. Last year I didn’t do very well, because I didn’t really push myself on the track, but I just had fun during the marathon. If you are going to run a marathon, especially in Kamchatka, where there is a big jet lag, you must first go through acclimatization. And not going with just one pair of skis, like I did (laughs). You have to be more serious to perform well in this marathon.
– This year, you have not yet decided whether you will go to Kamchatka?
“I don’t know yet, after all, Kamchatka is very far away, and a trip there will be expensive. But I really want to go back, it’s my place of power. Kamchatka changes people. For me it is one of the best places in the world.
“How has Kamchatka changed you?”
— Last year I climbed the Avachinsky Sopka volcano. When I climbed to the very top of the volcano, I went, so to speak, into the very mouth, tears just flowed from me. Not everyone has conquered a volcano in their lifetime, especially at the end of the world. After visiting Kamchatka, climbing the volcano, I became easier to understand, I realized that the most important values are my family.
Everyone should visit Kamchatka, and then you can understand what I am trying to convey. These are not just mountains, like the Alps, the Caucasus. They are, after all, breathing volcanoes. You put your hand on the volcano, it is heating up from the ground and there is snow all around. It’s very unusual. For me, Kamchatka is therapy after everything we have been through during the season.
– As for marathons, do you calmly endure such long distances?
We train for it. You can also ride 50 kilometers in training. If you are going to ski calmly, I don’t know how far you can drive. At least how many! Until you feel like eating or drinking. You can eat and go further, so to speak. In general, I withstand such loads without problems. I have been training since I was 9 years old and there is nothing difficult for me,” Gerbulova told .
