“There was no hope for the participation of Russian skiers in the World Cup, the FIS does not change the decisions made” – Borodavko

Coach of the Russian national team Yuri Borodavko in a conversation with a correspondent, he said that he had no hopes for the participation of Russian skiers in the World Championship this season.

Earlier, International Ski Federation (FIS) Secretary General Michel Vion told Swedish media that he saw no chance of admitting Russian skiers to the next World Cup. In September last year, Vion claimed that the FIS was considering the possibility of the Russian and Belarusian athletes returning in December 2022, but the official later dismissed his remarks as errors.

There was no hope, really. The FIS has already made a decision on the suspension for the whole season. One person solves nothing. Everything is decided by vote at the FIS Council. And these meetings are quite rare, they meet once or twice a year. The next, as Vion himself says, is in the spring. So we didn’t really expect a spontaneous and quick decision. This only confirmed that the FIS does not alter the decisions made. The IOC proposals are advisory only, Borodavko told .

On Wednesday, the IOC said it would explore the possibility of allowing neutral Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in international competitions that do not actively support the CBO. Russian athletes do not participate in competitions under the auspices of the International Ski Federation (FIS) due to the situation in Ukraine.

The World Ski Championships will take place from February 22 to March 5 in Planica, Slovenia.
