Irina Kazakevich: “I hope that soon we will be allowed to participate in international competitions. No matter the status

Olympic medalist in biathlon Irina Kazakevich expressed the hope that soon Russian and Belarusian athletes will be allowed to participate in international competitions, regardless of their status.

On Wednesday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said it would consider admitting neutral Russian and Belarusian athletes who do not actively support the NWO to world starts. Previously, in most sports, against the background of the situation in Ukraine, Russians were deprived of the opportunity to participate in international tournaments.

– I read the entire appeal of the IOC, – the correspondent of “” conveys Kazakevich’s words. — Of course, I hope that our Belarusian friends and I will soon be admitted to international competitions. It doesn’t matter the status. In the last Olympic Games, we also participated under the emblem of the National Olympic Committee, and in any case, the most important thing is the spirit of unity and participation in competitions, because now we are here in Raubichi.

– Today you won the sprint and sang the Russian anthem and even shed a tear. With what emotions do you listen to the anthem?

– Of course, when you get on the top step and sing your anthem, it’s pride. Every athlete in any country, if he doesn’t sing his anthem out loud, sing it to himself. As was the case at the Olympics, when Tchaikovsky’s melody was playing, I think Alexander Bolshunov also stood up and sang our anthem to himself. It is a ritual that settles in the heart, because everyone loves their country.

On January 28, in Raubichi, as part of the Commonwealth Cup stage, the men’s and women’s pursuit races will take place. Watch live broadcasts, respectively, from 10:40 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. (Moscow time) on the channel and the matchtv.ru website. Watch the program “Biathlon with Dmitry Guberniev” on January 29 at 1:00 p.m.
