The captain of the Ukrainian men’s biathlon team recalled the beginning of the Russian invasion.
Dmitry Pidruchny said he did not immediately believe that the Russian army had invaded Ukraine. The captain of the men’s biathlon team spoke about it in an interview with Zerkalo.
And the athlete experienced the strongest emotions after he witnessed the killings of civilians in Bucha, Irpen and Gostomel.
“I didn’t immediately realize there was a war in Ukraine. It was like a kind of picture on TV. It all became more real when I left the unit on February 25. I wasn’t on the front lines, I wasn’t. I live in trenches. But every- day with you soldiers, in the hands of machine guns – dreams of the rainbow quickly end.
The strongest emotions (and fears also) were after what they saw in Bucha, Irpin, Gostomel. They killed civilians, did not restrain anyone and simply mocked the people, ”Pidruchny said.
