Skater Golikova says she sees the IOC’s statement on the possible admission of Russians as empty words

Olympic bronze medalist in speed skating Angelina Golikova told that she did not yet feel any particular emotion following the statement of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the possible admission of Russians to international tournaments.

Russian athletes are currently suspended from competitions under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU) due to the situation in Ukraine.

On Wednesday, the IOC announced that it would consider admitting neutral Russian and Belarusian athletes who do not actively support the CBO to world starts. IOC chief Thomas Bach has admitted that Russians and Belarusians could participate in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris in a neutral status.

I take it as empty words. You can say anything. They will say “yes”, but then softly like “but”. And in the end, there will be so many “buts” that in the end no one will go anywhere. The situation is therefore still uncertain. I live for today, we have departures,” Golikova told .

– No specific decisions and no specific emotions?

– Maybe yes. I have motivation. I love speed skating, I have passion and as long as other circumstances don’t influence my decision to continue training. I want to do that! It is important to me that there is an opportunity to do any business, that there is a team. Let us in or not, I’m not even thinking about it yet.

In addition, we are winter visitors. The Olympics were last year. Summer sports are now at the top of the selection for the Olympics and for them this issue is more acute.
