The next biathlon season will be unique for all-Russian competitions, the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) uses the current conditions for the benefit of the national biathlon, the head of the organization says Viktor Maygurov .
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended at the end of February to international sports federations not to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in competitions because of the situation in Ukraine. In early March, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from all international competitions under the organization’s auspices.
– Yes, we are not allowed to participate in World Cups, but no one will take away Russian championships and Cups from us. And for All-Russian competitions this season should be unique – all the strongest participate, maximum competition, media attention. I’m not trying to water down the pill, I’m just proceeding from the conditions that have developed. Our main task is to use these conditions for the benefit of Russian biathlon, as far as the situation allows.
I’m really looking at things and so far I don’t see the possibility of the Russians participating as neutrals. But the participation of our athletes in the competitions of the strongest biathletes in the world is the unconditional priority of the RBU, – Maigurov quotes the words “Championship”.
At the end of June, elections for the president of the RRF will take place, and the current head of the organization, Maigurov, is once again one of the candidates for the position.
