German three-time Olympic biathlon champion Kati Wilhelm said she was happy to discuss again the issue of admitting Russian athletes to international competitions.
At the end of January, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that it would consider the possibility of admitting to international departures Russian and Belarusian athletes in a neutral status, who have not actively supported the CBO. IOC chief Thomas Bach admitted that the Russians could participate in the Summer Olympics in Paris in a neutral status.
– It’s good that the IOC is looking again at the question of allowing Russians and Belarusians to compete. Athletes do not affect SVO. I also think that Belarus should not be united with Russia. We have to see it in a more differentiated way. What good have we done by removing Russian athletes? The situation in Ukraine has not changed, — quotes Wilhelm Eurosport.
In February last year, the IOC’s executive committee recommended that federations not allow Russians and Belarusians to compete due to the situation in Ukraine.
