Sweden to begin preparations for 2030 Winter Olympics bid following IOC proposal

The Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK) will begin preparations for a bid to host the 2030 Winter Olympics following a proposal from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), according to Dagens Nyheter.

SOK, together with the Swedish Sports Confederation (RF), will start developing a feasibility study for the app. A report on the results of the study will be presented on April 20.

In 2019, Italy’s Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo bid ahead of Sweden’s Stockholm and Ore in the fight for the right to host the 2026 Games. was born in consultation with the IOC, which is struggling to find candidates to host the 2030 Olympics. Earlier, Japan’s Sapporo and Canada’s Vancouver withdrew their bids to host the tournament.

“There is a lot to say that it is possible. Based on these discussions, we have decided that there is a chance. To our knowledge, no other candidate has taken a clear step forward. This could to be something that will unite all of Sweden,” said Anders Larsson, acting chairman of SOK.

The 2026 Winter Olympics will be held in Italy from February 6-22.
