Declaration of the French biathlete Martin Fourcade regarding the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to the 2024 Olympic Games deserves respect, the two-time Olympic biathlon champion told Sergei Chepikov .
Earlier, five-time Olympic champion Martin Fourcade, in an interview with NRK, supported the possible return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions, saying he would be “ashamed of his country” if the representatives of these states were not not allowed at the Paris Olympics.
– Very unexpected. Previously, Fourcade had had some friction with our athletes, verbal clashes in the press. But if he said it now, then it’s worthy of respect. All this is fine, but unless additional conditions are laid down for the participation of our athletes in the Olympics, Chepikov told .
Earlier, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that it would consider the possibility of admitting Russian and Belarusian athletes to world starts in a neutral status, who have not actively supported the OSV. IOC chief Thomas Bach has admitted that Russians could participate in the Paris Olympics without national symbols. On February 2, the committee noted that this matter had not yet been discussed and that the organization still did not have criteria according to which individual admission to competitions could be made.
The Paris Summer Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
