Vasiliev – about Fourcade’s words in favor of the Russians: “He started to miss attention and he decided to do more PR”

Double Olympic champion in biathlon Dmitry Vasiliev in the program “Tous pour le match!” on called the statements of the five-time winner of the French Games populism Martin Fourcade which advocated the admission of Russians to international competitions.

Previously, Fourcade had backed the possible return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions, saying he would “be ashamed of his country” if Russians and Belarusians were not allowed to compete in the Paris Summer Olympics.

– Fourcade began to lack attention. He is used to being the center of attention. I decided to be such an antagonist of the general position of the West: “Russia is an evil demon, so are the Belarusians, and they just need to be destroyed.” And on this wave, Fourcade decided to get more PR,” Vasiliev said on .

Vasiliev was also skeptical of International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach, who had previously said governments should not decide who can participate in sporting events. “It would be the end of international sports competitions, world championships and the Olympics as we know them today,” the IOC chief said.

– Let’s say that he sincerely wants to bring Russian and Belarusian athletes back to international competitions, but why didn’t he name the conditions? We won’t go without an anthem and without a flag, will we? Well, maybe individual athletes,” added Vasiliev.

The IOC announced in January that it would consider the possibility of allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes who do not actively support the SVO to participate in international competitions in a neutral status. At the moment, there are no specific criteria for possible admission.

The 2024 Summer Olympics will take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
