Pidruchny: I feel that I have not fully recovered, two races in a row are still hard for me

The Ukrainian took eighth place in the pursuit at the 2023 World Championships

Ukrainian biathlete Dmitry Pidruchny commented on his performance in the pursuit at World Cup 2023 in Oberhof.

“Thank you to the fans who are worried about my health, and for me. I am very pleased to feel their support. Everything is fine, the knee works well, but it still feels like it has not fully recovered, because certain sections of the track, when there is a big load, are difficult. But two races in a row at the moment is a bit hard for me. After all, I have only a month of training behind me. And before that, there was also more than a month break, so it’s not easy to accumulate strength for each race, although yesterday it was generally super. Today is a little harder, but I try to show the maximum.

“Nothing happened on the third line, my two misses, unfortunately. Somewhere, perhaps, he lost concentration and underworked. It was very hard today on the track: heavy weather, sleet and the track crashed. It was difficult on the third lap, when I felt a certain crisis, and it was hard for me. And, as a result, these two misses. Later I concentrated, took myself into a fist and worked better.

“The last lap was quite difficult. I tried to keep my position. But a little bit lacked the strength to compete with Dale at the finish line. I didn’t run away from him so much as from other pursuers, he caught up with me and sat behind me to the finish line. But I’m happy with the 8th place also because I managed to stay in the top 10. With such competition, this is a very good result at the World Championships.”

“Now after yesterday’s and today’s race I have already plunged into work, I forget that there was a big break. But I dreamed because the situation was very difficult. And these first steps on skis and everything was very difficult. I could not think that I would still be able to return and compete at the World Championships. To compete in the IBU Cup was like a test for me. I really wanted to go here, be with the team, play here, this is the main start of the season. The fact that I am here is already a great achievement, but the fact that I was able to impose a fight and get into the top 10 twice is a great result for me, and I am very happy.”

Dmitry Pidruchny became the best among Ukrainians in the pursuit race, taking eighth place. Norwegian Johannes Be won another gold.

Monday is the day of rest in the program of the 2023 World Cup. The next start will be the men’s individual race, which will be held on February 14.
