Biathlon Hall of Fame seems incomplete without Soviet and Russian athletes, Guberniev says

The Hall of Fame, which was established by the International Biathlon Union (IBU), seems incomplete without Soviet and Russian athletes, the presenter and commentator says Dmitri Guberniev .

On Tuesday, the IBU press service announced the establishment of the Biathlon Hall of Fame. The first athletes inducted into the Hall of Fame were Norwegian Ole Einar Bjoerndalen, as well as Germans Kati Wilhelm, Andrea Henkel and Sven Fischer. They were chosen by the IBU Executive Committee. In total, they have won 17 Olympic gold medals, 40 world titles, 221 World Cup victories and 10 overall victories.

– We have a large number of biathletes who could enter the IBU Hall of Fame. These names are known, they are the pride of biathlon in the 20th and 21st centuries. But we know that there is no longer any chance that the IBU will include any of the Russians in the Hall of Fame. As the situation changes, they will activate it. Now you can clench your fists, you can be outraged, but it’s their decision. And it was not necessary to start with these respected names, although each of those included in the Hall of Fame is a worthy person.

Who should have started?

– We must start with those who, in the middle of the 20th century, were at the origin of biathlon, it seems to me. But it’s the decision of the IBU, they have the right to do it. At the same time, in all honesty, the Biathlon Hall of Fame without Soviet and Russian athletes looks incomplete, Guberniev told a correspondent.

The IBU will select new members of the Hall of Fame each year.

On Thursday, February 16, the last stage of the Russian Biathlon Cup begins in Tchaikovsky. Watch live broadcasts of the races on the channel, as well as on the websites matchtv.ru And sportbox.ru.
