The examination by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) of the complaint of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) against the International Biathlon Union (IBU) concerning the withdrawal of Russian athletes from participation in competitions is a formality, said in the RBU Press Service.
CAS announced on Tuesday that it would consider RRF’s request on March 21. The IBU announced in late February 2022 that it would only allow Russians and Belarusians to compete in neutral status. After that, the RBU announced that Russian athletes would not participate in the remaining stages of the World Cup until the end of the season. Subsequently, the IBU decided on the complete suspension of Russian and Belarusian biathletes.
— The March exam at CAS is a bureaucratic formality. Consideration of this matter became meaningless after the IBU Congress in September last year, albeit retroactively, rendered a decision on our suspension. Now it’s just a procedure for the CAS to follow,” the correspondent told the RRF press office.
