The main biathletes of the Russian national team and regions of the country do not plan to change sports citizenship in the context of the suspension of international competitions, said Alexander Pak, executive director of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU), at MatchTV.
In February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended preventing Russians from participating in international competitions. In January 2023, the IOC announced that it would consider the possibility of admitting Russian and Belarusian athletes to world starts in a neutral status, who did not actively support the SVO.
– Are there any requests from RRF biathletes regarding the change of nationality?
“We are going slowly. Surely someone is planning to move, but we do not have this information. As practice shows, several people change their nationality every year. It is not necessary to talk about the leaders not only about the national team, but also regions – we don’t have such conversations, plans and information,” Pak told a correspondent.
– Did any of the foreigners express a desire to play for Russia?
Nobody sent anything. We educate our staff, we have a reserve.
The final phase of the Russian Cup will be held in Chaikovsky (Perm Territory) from February 16 to 19. The races will be broadcast live on the channel, as well as on the matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru websites. The first start on Thursday will be the women’s sprint, the broadcast will begin at 8:40 a.m. (Moscow time).
