In the new season, the number of biathlon races in Russia will be less, the SBR said

The Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) is drawing up a plan for the national competition calendar for next season, taking into account a smaller number of races, Alexander Pak, the organisation’s executive director, told .

The last stage of the Russian Cup this season will be held in Chaikovsky (Perm Territory) from February 16 to 19. Next week the Russian championship starts in Izhevsk.

— The biathlon calendar this season is very tight. Do you plan to break it next year so that fans and athletes do not get tired of biathlon?

– I think it is convenient for the public to have competitions every week, they are not interested in long breaks. But for athletes, this year is experimental, and for them, I think, the calendar came out excessive. Coaches have been talking about this for a long time, but their task is to protect the athletes. I can say with certainty that next season there will be fewer competitions, we are already drawing up a schedule plan with the technical committee, and with the national team coaches, and with the coaches council,” said Pak. to the correspondent.

Which competitions will be eliminated?

– So far, the question is not in the specific stages of the Russian Cup or the Commonwealth Cup. We are talking about the fact that there have been fewer departures. I think that in a month and a half we will have drawn up a project that we will defend before the coaches’ council. And after agreement, the calendar plan will be approved by the executive committee. But there will certainly be less competition.

– You don’t want to organize the Russian championship next season in the same city?

– We have Olympic and non-Olympic disciplines, in which we play the Russian championship. If we take the Olympic, then it’s two weeks. If we add non-Olympic disciplines to them, then, unfortunately, the competition will stretch too much. Probably, we will remain of the opinion that we must break.

The races of the sixth stage of the Russian Cup will be broadcast live on the channel, as well as on the matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru websites. The first start on Thursday will be the women’s sprint, the broadcast will begin at 8:40 a.m. (Moscow time).
