Skater Aldoshkin about a year after Olympic medal: ‘Hopefully if we get in we can fight for gold’

Olympic silver medal in speed skating Daniel Aldochkin said there was a sense of satisfaction from the Beijing 2022 medal a year later, but he hopes to compete for gold at the 2026 Games.

Wednesday marked exactly one year since he won Russia’s first-ever medal in the men’s team race at the Beijing Olympics. Aldoshkin, Ruslan Zakharov and Sergey Trofimov became silver medalists. In this type of program, they also set an Olympic record.

– Already quite a few people remember this medal, you yourself even begin to forget what this medal looks like. If it hadn’t been for today’s reminder on social media, I probably wouldn’t even remember that today is exactly one year old,” Aldoshkin told .

Did you watch the final? Was there a feeling watching that they might win the gold?

– I have seen it several times, but there is a feeling of satisfaction from this medal. We can always do better, but we showed a fairly good result, for me it’s overall excellent. Hopefully if we are admitted to the Olympics, we can fight for gold and it will be morally easier for us.

– Follow the results of the World Cup?

– Yes, our coaches watch, we watch and we take it into account in our preparation. The best races of Norwegians and Americans. The leaders are therefore the same. I can say that we too could go through these seconds.
