Biathlete Valeria Kayumova (Vasnetsova), together with the coach, knows best when it was necessary to resume competitions after giving birth, the president of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) told Viktor Maygurov .
On Thursday, a sprint took place in Tchaikovsky as part of the final stage of the PARI Cup of Russia. Natalya Gerbulova won it, Irina Kazakevich took second place, Anastasia Goreeva became third. Having given birth to a daughter in late November, Kayumova posted the 38th result, trailing the winner by more than five minutes, while missing seven on two shooting lines.
There weren’t many spectators today. The day of the week is the reason?
– Including. We would like to have races in the evening, but there is hockey. There will be two races on Saturday and Sunday, so spectators will come. And the small number of fans who were in the women’s sprint is also nice,” Maygurov told a correspondent.
Isn’t biathlon the number one winter sport?
– As for the ratings – yes, we are on par. We have some of the highest ratings.
In general, I’m happy that after each race you change the leader – it’s great, there is no predictability. Fans love this fight too.
— Svetlana Mironova and Kayumova started for the first time this season. How would you rate their performance?
– They show that they are competitive, that they haven’t lost much. I hope they will be in good shape.
– Kayumova gave birth almost three months ago. Not in a hurry to get back on the ski slopes?
– I think girls with their coaches better assess their abilities. And as they say: the best training is competition. So everything has to be done by yourself.
Who invented the new trophies?
– We. It is a good memory for any sportsman. We tried to make beautiful cups, because in the future maybe they will end up in a museum, people will look at them.
After six races in the 2022/23 season, Elizaveta Kaplina scored 274 points and took first place in the Russian Cup sprint standings. The second was Ekaterina Noskova (264 points), the third – Victoria Slivko (263).
The races of the final phase of the PARI Russian Cup will be broadcast live on the channel, as well as on the matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru websites. On Friday, February 17, the men’s sprint will take place, the broadcast will start at 8:40 a.m. (Moscow time).
