Coach of one of the women’s groups Russian team in biathlon, Artem Istomin told Metaratings.ru how his work with an assistant will be built Vitaly Noritsyn.
Why did you choose Vitaly Noritsyn as your partner? Did you discuss the possibility of working with him beforehand?
— Vitaly Noritsyn and I have long worked together on World Cup stages and discussed methodological issues. Every day we talked with him about the competition, the training process and more. Of course, we largely agreed with him on the training process, including in the last year of communication.
He adheres to a similar view of the training process, like me and Yuri Mikhailovich Kaminsky. I also consider him to be a great shooting specialist, who not only tries to load him up with shooting, but to point out specific athlete errors and correct them. Outraged? he worked a lot with women, and I need such a coach, because women are a big part of our team. I think it will help me a lot.
– Doesn’t it bother you that Noritsyn is a very bossy person in the women’s team? Kristina Reztsova and Svetlana Mironova supported her invitation. Will he have the maximum influence on what happens in the team, and will you be responsible for the result?
– No, because all our plans are first written by me, so I understand all my responsibility and finally make the decision myself. I can consult with him or with another specialist, but I don’t agree.
You yourself understand that we don’t have the same training system as in Norway, where all the coaches speak the same language. I would be lying if I said that all Russian coaches understand each other when it comes to training. Of course not. There may be misunderstandings, but we try to explain it. If you can’t explain it, we’ll make a different decision,” Istomin said.
Former head of the Russian Biathlon Union Viktor Maygurov said Istomin’s appointment is entirely his decision.
