Biathlete Petr Pashchenko told that he suffered from a viral infection in training camp, which affected his condition during the sprint race in the final stage of the PARI Cup of Russia.
Eduard Latypov won the men’s sprint on Friday at the sixth stage of the Russian Cup in Tchaikovsky (Perm Territory). Pashchenko finished fifth with one miss. In the final sprint standings, Pashchenko also took fifth place (192 points).
– I had a viral infection at training camp. I did not pass tests, but I felt bad – a low temperature lasted for several days, there was a headache and great weakness. For the first two days after the illness, I couldn’t ski – I felt like I had never skied all season.
We decided with the coach to go to the start of the Russian Cup. I think I showed a decent result, I did my best – I made a mistake. Today’s race was hell for me, I suffered from the middle of the first lap. It was very difficult, after the finish line I left for a long time. These are most likely the consequences of the virus,” Pashchenko told a correspondent.
– There was no desire to withdraw, so as not to risk before the Russian championship?
– No. At the start, the idea was to sprint. And once out, you have to fight to the end. Secondly, today I have a good position on the finish line and very good chances for the pursuit.
I don’t think it will be any easier tomorrow, and regarding this race, let’s look at the mass start. Still, for me personally, an important start is the individual race at the Russian Championship in Izhevsk. I would also like to look worthy of the Commonwealth Cup final.
How would you describe the conditions on the track?
– Excellent weather conditions. It’s warmer outside, spring is coming. The stadium is perfectly prepared, the sliding is excellent, the shooting line is top notch.
The races of the final phase of the PARI Russian Cup will be broadcast live on the channel, as well as on the matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru websites. On Saturday, February 18, women’s and men’s pursuit races will take place, the broadcasts will start at 8:40 am and 11:40 am respectively (Moscow time).
