President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Viktor Maygurov told that the Russian team there are no surprises at the 2026 Olympics, the current national team leaders will go to the competition.
The 2026 Olympics will take place in the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo from February 6-22. Currently, Russian athletes are suspended from participation in international competitions by decision of the IOC.
– The coaches of the Russian national team, first of all, look at those who are already on the way, the next in line, who perform in the juniors. This year we plan to launch a comprehensive program for the preparation of young men. We want to do this as massively as possible, if not for the 2026 Olympics, at least for the 2030 Olympics, we have to understand who will start in the national team. With the next Olympics everything is clear, the current national team guys will start there,” Maygurov told a correspondent.
– You say that the places in the composition are already guaranteed in three years. And if in 2024 there was a star of the level of Bjoerndalen?
– I will be happy (smile). Unfortunately, stars are rare – this is a commodity in biathlon. The team is important above all, not just one person. It’s not chess.
