Three-time Olympic bronze medalist Edward Latypov told he was ready to win the biathlon world championship, but noted that it was difficult to gauge how realistic that was without competing internationally.
In February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended preventing Russians from participating in international competitions. In January 2023, the IOC announced that it would consider the possibility of admitting Russian and Belarusian athletes to world starts in a neutral status, who did not actively support the SVO.
– Everyone says: Latypov is ready to win the world championship right now. Ready if you could?
– Of course, I am ready to perform and take the first places. But nobody knows how it would have happened, because it is very difficult to compare. I hope we will achieve this in the future,” Latypov told a correspondent.
Do you plan to come back next season?
– Yes.
– The IOC authorizes the participation of Russians, but in a neutral status. Accept?
– I can’t answer that question. So far there have been no offers. Our government and the Ministry of Sports will decide, and then we will make a joint decision.
Latypov in the final of the Russian Cup in Tchaikovsky (Perm Territory) won the sprint and pursuit.
The races of the final phase of the PARI Russian Cup will be broadcast live on the channel, as well as on the matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru websites. On Sunday, February 19, the women’s and men’s mass starts will take place, the broadcast will start at 8:40 am and 10:50 am respectively (Moscow time).
