Porshnev thinks young Russian biathletes would look great at the IBU Cup and the World Cup

Bronze medalist at the Biathlon World Championships Nikita Porchnev told that young Russian athletes could perform well at the World Cup and IBU Cup, and experienced biathletes would be ready to compete successfully after being admitted to the starts.

In February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended preventing Russians from participating in international competitions. In January 2023, the IOC announced that it would consider the possibility of admitting Russian and Belarusian athletes to world starts in a neutral status, who did not actively support the SVO.

– The stages of the Russian Cup this season are comparable to the national championship – all the best performances. Today, our youth has grown a lot, it puts pressure on the elders. I think the youngsters would look great at the IBU Cup and the World Cup. The competition in Russia is very strong,” Porshnev told a correspondent.

– When will Russia return to the international level?

– Nobody knows, but I would like it to happen next season. And we will certainly be ready.

Porshnev took 32nd place in the sprint on Friday at the sixth stage of the PARI Cup of Russia. On Saturday in the pursuit race, the 26-year-old net-shooting biathlete showed the 13th result, losing 2 minutes 38.9 seconds to the winner Eduard Latypov.

The races of the final phase of the PARI Russian Cup will be broadcast live on the channel, as well as on the matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru websites. On Sunday, February 19, the women’s and men’s mass starts will take place, the broadcast will start at 8:40 am and 10:50 am respectively (Moscow time).
