The head of the RBU explained the criteria by which the work of the coaches of the Russian national team at the end of the season will be evaluated

President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Viktor Maygurov told that the main criterion for evaluating the Russian national team’s coaching staff at the end of the season will be the results of the athletes.

In January, Pavel Rostovtsev was appointed to the post of RBU Vice-President for Sports with the duties of head coach of the Russian national team. The men’s team’s feared coach is Yuri Kaminsky women’s team – Mikhail Shachilov .

– In previous years, the work of coaches of the Russian national team was assessed, among other things, by results at the World Championships. Today, when there are no such competitions, what criteria are you going to use to rate the specialists?

– We have set ourselves the task of bringing athletes to the top of their game in Tchaikovsky, where the final of the Russian Cup is taking place, and in Izhevsk, where the first stage of the Russian championship will begin next week. Just when the World Cup is happening,” Maygurov told a correspondent.

– Will the technical staff of the national team retain their positions for next season?

“Now is not the time to talk about it. We will assess at the end of the season.

– What criteria will be taken into account during the rating?

– One way or another, the results of the athletes are the main criterion. There is also the dynamics of improving results in terms of speed, shooting and other points. These are all a combination of factors, but the main one is the results.

In February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended preventing Russians from participating in international competitions. In January 2023, the IOC announced that it would consider the possibility of admitting Russian and Belarusian athletes to world starts in a neutral status, who did not actively support the SVO.
