Minister of Sports of Russia Oleg Matytsin said the organizers of the Olympic Games can envy the opening ceremony of the Asian Children’s International Games, adding that the sanctions period is an opportunity to confirm the strength of our country.
The opening ceremony of the Asian Children’s Games was held on Saturday. Participants in the competition will be young athletes from Russia and friendly countries.
— I want to express my gratitude to the government of Kuzbass, to the whole team for creating the festive atmosphere, which was presented to the children. The sanctions period is a new opportunity to look at our resources, to confirm that we are a powerful and self-sufficient country, that we have enormous human potential, regions that love their future and respect their past. Such an opening ceremony, which we have just seen, may be the envy of the organizers of the Olympic Games. But our main task is to do everything possible so that sport becomes the norm of life, so that people feel comfortable playing sport with the whole family. Ahead of us are records and only positive emotions,” the Sports Ministry press service quoted Matytsin as saying.
“Children of Asia” takes place in Kuzbass from February 23 to March 5. The games program included competitions in cross-country skiing, speed skating, hockey, snowboarding, downhill skiing, figure skating and other sports. For the first time in the history of the games, the competition will be organized by four territories at once: Kemerovo, Novokuznetsk, Mezhdurechensk, Tashtagolsky municipal district.
The International Sports Games “Children of Asia” were organized in 1996 on the initiative of the first President of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Mikhail Nikolaev.
