Head Coach of the Russian National Skating Team Dmitry Dorofeev believes that there is still no certainty in the history of admission to international competitions and that the sport is far from being a priority in difficult times.
Russian athletes have been suspended from competitions under the auspices of the International Skating Union amid the situation in Ukraine. The IOC announced in January that it would consider admitting neutral Russian and Belarusian athletes to world starts who did not actively support the CBO. The head of the organization, Thomas Bach, admitted that Russians could participate in the Paris Olympics without national symbols. On February 2, the committee noted that this matter had not yet been discussed and that the organization still did not have criteria according to which individual admission to competitions could be made.
– The sport has recently turned professional. At first, the sport is applied. In these difficult times, we must be aware of this. It will be unpleasant to act in such a status once again. It’s my point of view. How athletes relate to this is something they have to decide for themselves. I think we are going to live very serious moments. It won’t stop today or tomorrow. Yes, we open the news now and see the statements from the IOC and Thomas Bach, but we also see how many parties are against it. And the question of security is important – who will provide it? Organizers? I don’t have all the information, I read and analyze what is happening,” Dorofeev told . – Some information appears, but everything changes quite quickly and it is difficult to navigate. I can’t even imagine how we are going to be selected in principle by ratings and quotas after the missed season. I think about it, but in fact I don’t even know where to start. There is no certainty. That’s about all we know now.
