The press service of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) has issued a statement regarding the situation of Belarusian athletes during the mass start of the PARI Russian Championship.
On Sunday, Ilnaz Mukhamedzyanov won the big mass start of the Russian Championship in Izhevsk. Up to 60 biathletes are allowed to participate in the race, 53 Russians started in Izhevsk. Russian competitions in the current season have the status of open, Belarusian biathletes participate in the races of the Russian Cup and Championship. The press service of the organization notes that the competition jury acted in full compliance with the established rules of the competition.
– On Saturday evening February 25, on the eve of the big mass starts, in which, according to the rules, no more than 60 people can participate in both men and women, preliminary start protocols were formed. The women of the declared participants were under 60 years old, the Belarusian athletes immediately went to the starting protocol, and the next day, Sunday, they started safely. The men of the declared participants numbered 78 people, distributed as follows: the starting list – 60 athletes from the Russian Federation, the reserve list – 10 Russians and 8 athletes from Belarus.
The main starting protocol was formed on Sunday February 26, according to the regulations, two hours before the start of the race. After confirmation of their participation, 53 Russian athletes remained. The seven free places were offered to the official representative of the Belarusian national team, but the Belarusian team refused to participate in the big men’s mass start.
To date, the only document that determines the participation of Belarusian athletes in All-Russian biathlon competitions is the RBU Regulations for holding these competitions (PARI Russian Championship, PARI Russian Cup, etc.). For its part, the RBU makes every effort to, on the one hand, comply with the standards established by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, and on the other hand, ensure maximum opportunities for athletes from a friendly country. to participate. in all Russian competitions.
The Belarusian Biathlon Federation is aware of the existing rules and has agreed to participate in All-Russian competitions in accordance with these rules.
