Double Olympic medalist skier Andrei Larkov told he was not looking to return to the World Cup due to his age.
Russian athletes are missing the current international season by decision of the International Ski Federation (FIS).
– Is there any hope at least once more of expressing oneself on the international scene? Even if you say there are no particular goals now.
– To be honest, I don’t aspire to the World Cup. Tasks change slightly, age makes itself felt. With age, thoughts go in a different direction, – 33-year-old Larkov told “”.
– Surely you sometimes want to win something anyway, especially in the skiathlon at the “Champion Heights”, I managed to get into the top ten.
– We still have distance starts here, then the Russian championship. The season is long. Two more months, you might say. This year is particularly long, because on April 16 I run 70 km. It’s never been so late, I guess.
– Looking back on your career, are you satisfied with all the achievements or is there a slight dissatisfaction that there are not enough gold medals at World Championships and Olympics?
– Of course, we would like gold, but we have what we have. No complaints. Absolutely satisfied. Also, I love the process of skiing. I want to stress this again for young people. The most important thing is that the process is enjoyable. Then there are the medals.
Have you thought about what you will do after your career? Maybe help the Tatarstan national team coach?
– There are some developments, but for now, let’s stay as is. I’m still an athlete, I’m still running. I am in my place.
Larkov won silver at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang in the relay and finished third in the marathon. He also has two silver medals at the world championships.
