Olympic cross-country skiing champion Alexei Chervotkin said he was a little upset about the small delay of Alexandra Bolshunova in the race for 15 km with a separate start at the “Champion Heights” in Malinovka.
Bolshunov won the race in 35 minutes 56.8 seconds. Chervotkin became the second and lost 6 seconds to the three-time Olympic champion.
– Just a little lost against Bolshunov. Is it more offensive or on the contrary cool that you played like that?
– Depending on how you look at it. I have already said that appetite comes with eating and it is not always possible to beat Alexander. When you lose a little, of course, but I tried to win. I missed one of the opportunities when it was possible to win at these competitions, probably. It’s on one of the main starts of the season. Not just on some ordinary ones. There is discomfort in this, – the correspondent of reports the words of Chervotkin.
– But what more feelings do you have?
– On the one hand, there is a result, and the work that has been done in training camp is visible. Yet much has been done. Many of us had problems: me, Mashka Istomina, Natalya Nepryaeva. But even then they came down early. I am the only one who came to the camp from the beginning and stayed there until the end. It seemed to me that I was loaded, and therefore the state is like this… When there is a result, then it is nice, of course. You understand that it is not in vain. But after the skiathlon, I was overwhelmed.
– Terentyev at the beginning of “Champion’s Heights” just said that climbing to a height does not give anything special.
“No, the plan and the workload I’ve done are now yielding results, some kind of fruit. However, the height itself in Sochi is difficult. The interval control workouts took place under very difficult conditions. But, as practice shows, we have already been there in the summer and autumn, and after the last rally in Sochi there is no mountain effect, “sprinkle”, so to speak. You have to speed up because you’re heavy. Young people too. Nikita Denisov, Dashka Nepryaeva went to Tyumen for the youth championship, went down the list, as they say, and in the first days of this debut they frankly did not work out at all. Therefore, Vanka Yakimushkin and Tyoma Maltsev left with me and did not stay another week. We decided to play again.
