Swedish journalist thinks Russian skiers will be allowed to participate in next season’s World Cup

The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) will allow Russian athletes to compete under its auspices next season, said Thomas Petterson, a journalist with the Swedish edition of Expressen.

The FIS suspended the Russians and Belarusians from the final starts of the 2021/22 season due to the situation in Ukraine. In October, the FIS Council extended the suspension of the Russians for the 2022/23 season. These days in Slovenian Planica the world championship takes place.

– Of course, watching competitions with the participation of Russians is much more interesting. The FIS will follow the instructions of the IOC and open the door to the Russians. I can bet my house on it, but I don’t have one. The information reaching me indicates that Russian athletes will be competing. I don’t know what could prevent it.

The question was even discussed that Russian athletes could compete in Planica, but this did not happen. Many Swedish athletes were ready to refuse to compete here if the Russians came. There’s still plenty of time until next season,” Petterson said on the FasterSkier podcast.

The IOC announced in January that it would consider admitting to international competitions neutral Russian and Belarusian athletes who did not actively support the CBO. IOC chief Thomas Bach has admitted that Russians could participate in the 2024 Olympics in Paris without national symbols.
