The head of the International Ski Federation (FIS), Johan Eliash, said the admission of Russian athletes to participate in international competitions should be considered in the context of human rights.
– It is very important that we consider the case against Russian athletes from all sides. Sport is a human right. We must believe in human rights and also defend them. It is in this context that we must consider sport in our situation, – quotes Eliash NRK.
Earlier, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that it would consider the possibility of admitting Russian and Belarusian athletes to world starts in a neutral status, who did not actively support the SVO. IOC chief Thomas Bach admitted that Russians could participate in the Paris Olympics without national symbols. On February 2, the committee noted that this matter had not yet been discussed and that the organization still did not have criteria according to which individual admission to competitions could be made.
