Russians’ denial in Congress could lead to CAS trial, Gulyaev says

President of the Russian Skating Union Nikolai Gulyaev believes that the International Skating Union (ISU) was guided by true values in the decision not to raise the issue of the Russian side’s participation in the organization’s congress and thus avoided the risk of litigation.

On Sunday, it became known that the ISU Council had not submitted to Congress a proposal to exclude Russian representatives from the participants of the event, which will begin on June 6 in Phuket (Thailand).

— I consider the decision of the ISU on the admission of the representatives of Russia and Belarus to the next congress of the ISU to be entirely correct. Inadmissibility could lead to a procedure before the CAS. We are happy that the international skating community was guided by true values and sporting principles when making this decision,” Gulyaev said.

From the Russian Skating Union, the ISU Congress is attended by Secretary General Ksenia Shantseva, Mikhail Sokolov, short track technical committee member candidate Andrey Nefedov. The new president of the Russian Skating Union, Nikolai Gulyaev, could not be nominated for the congress, because the elections were held on June 3 and the deadline for candidacies was earlier.
