“The last lap was on foot to save energy for the next race” – Serokhvostov on the pursuit in Tyumen

Biathlete Daniil Serokhvostov said the final lap of the Commonwealth Cup pursuit was on foot to save energy for the next start.

On Saturday, Eduard Latypov took first place in the pursuit race at the Commonwealth Cup finals in Tyumen and won the overall tournament standings ahead of schedule. Serokhvostov, who finished second, was 55.1 seconds behind Latypov. Alexander Povarnitsyn, who became the third – by 1 minute 12.3 seconds. The mass start will take place on Sunday.

– I want to fight Edik, but small gaps do not allow me to do so. To fight it on equal terms, you need a clean shot. Edik himself gives chances to catch him, but no one takes advantage of it.

Today there was a working wind at the sighting, but gusty, constantly from different directions. Consequently, it was difficult to shoot and the race was almost calm. It was therefore difficult to adapt to the calm to shoot clearly in the center.

– The last meters before the finish you just ride without the use of arms and legs. Why did they do this?

– The coaches at the start of the last lap told me to “walk the lap”. I walked the circle on foot to save as much energy as possible for tomorrow’s race. Therefore, even at the finish line he did not push.

– Wasn’t it boring to go almost the whole race without a contact struggle?

“It’s much more comfortable than with someone,” reports the correspondent, according to Serokhvostov.

On March 12, mass starts will take place at the Pari stage of the Commonwealth Cup in Tyumen. At 08:35 (Moscow time) the women’s race will start, at 11:55 (Moscow time) the men’s race.
