Olympic short track champion Semyon Elistratov said he decided not to take a risk and withdrew from two personal distances at the Russian Championship because he had a temperature.
Yelistratov won the 1500m on the first day of the Russian Championship in Ufa; he dropped out of the 500m and 1000m due to illness.
– The body, apparently, decided to act in its own way. I don’t think the risk of running now would be justified, especially since I’ve won all the big tournaments this season, yesterday I already ran the 1500m with a temperature. I understood that I had to gain a distance so that there would be no questions for my humble person. Yesterday I had a temperature of 38.5, this morning too. I discussed with the coach, we made such a decision that there was no need to take any risks, it could turn against a difficult recovery, God forbid, complications. With such a temperature, people stay at home and I compete.
The reserve is enough for one or two days, then a recession. I missed the 500m, ran the relay, but felt uncomfortable,” Yelistratov told .
