Winner of the short track world championship Ekaterina Efremenkova told that in the first months of 2023 she had a very difficult start and training schedule, so the Russian Short Track Championship in Ufa was difficult for her.
Efremenkova won the championship of Russia at a distance of 1000 m. This season she combines performance on long and short tracks.
– From the very beginning I thought that I would only run 1500 and 1000 m, 500 m in Ufa – only if I somehow felt unrealistic, in the strongest conditions.
At 1500m, I managed to do a lot of overtaking in the final, I rode a lot in front, led in the race. The ice was unfortunately not so smooth. The women’s final B ran in front of us, there were several falls, holes remained – the ice was leveled with snow, a fire extinguisher. And, unfortunately, bad luck – in our final, my teammate came to this place and after a few laps, one lap before the finish line, I did. Failed to hold on to the finish line, only second place.
But I must say that Anna Vostrikova was in very good shape at these competitions, I am very happy for her, her whole season was a little crumpled, but she approached the current Russian championship in her condition.
What about 1000 meters?
– In fact, on the “thousand” I left after a year and a half. I have a very busy end of the season after New Years. After New Years, I went from one training camp to another, without interruption. He is paralyzed in terms of health and emotional state. One of the most difficult starts took place in Ufa.

– Chelyabinsk, collection, Cup. A day and a half to straighten things out and gather in Irkutsk – the Russian all-around championship. From there to Kolomna for a training camp with a short track, then to Rybinsk for the Cup final, then to Kolomna for speed skating, the Cup final, from there to the short river to Novogorsk and Ufa .
Are you ready to do it again?
– I can’t answer that question yet, ask me in a few months, then I’ll give an honest answer (laughs). While I want to relax and get all this out of my head.
– Have you already decided how you will relax?
– First I will go home, to Chelyabinsk, to my mother. I’m going to go see my first coach, who took me to short track. We need to meet the girls, with Zhenya Zakharova, who is now in a new status, and we need to get to know this status, so to speak, better,” Efremenkova told .
