russian biathlete Anastasia Batmanova admitted to being surprised by the level of the 38-year-old woman who resumed her career Ekaterina Yurlova-Perkht who missed the season due to pregnancy.
On Saturday, Yurlova-Perkht finished sixth in the pursuit race at the Commonwealth Cup final in Tyumen with no misses across four shooting ranges. For the 38-year-old biathlete, this is the second race after a long break in her career.
– Katya Yurlova surprises (smiles). It’s both good and sad, because it shows the level of our biathlon. Of course, it is difficult for me to talk about how much time she spends in training, but a person comes after a year without a start and shows a stable shot, average movement. And that’s cool, because you understand that it’s possible to stay at that level at that age. But it’s also sad, because we have to grow compared to Katya, although of course she is a top athlete. The main thing is that she didn’t win, because we would be upset now (smiles). Probably, with a zero shot, she should have such a result. Maybe she’s in the best shape now, but I doubt that because she hasn’t played for a long time,” Batmanova told The Championship.
From March 27 to April 2, Khanty-Mansiysk will host the Russian Biathlon Championship. Watch live broadcasts of competitions on the channel, as well as on the matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru websites.
