Norwegian biathlete Eckhoff announces her retirement

Previously, a similar decision was made by Marte Olsbu-Røiseland

Norwegian biathlete Tiril Eckhoff announced retirement.

Eckhoff, 32, has missed the current season due to the effects of the coronavirus. Norwegian is a two-time Olympic champion and a ten-time world champion.

“Now I am leaving biathlon. Last March I won two races at Holmenkollen. I didn’t know then that these would be my last victories as a biathlete – the plans were to continue.”

“Biathlon has been my life for as long as I can remember, and it’s hard to imagine life without it. Last year I was out of biathlon for a while, so it seems like a natural transition to the step I have now taken. It’s weird and a little sad, but it’s also right at the same time.”

Recall that earlier several famous biathletes announced their retirement – Norwegian Marte Olsbu-Roiseland, German Denise Herrmann-Wik and Frenchwoman Anais Chevalier-Boucher.

The final stage of the Biathlon World Cup will be held in Holmenkollen from 16 to 19 March. The men’s sprint, which will take place on Thursday, will open the competition program. The beginning is at 16:15 Kyiv time.
