The representative of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) Sergey Sviridov at the congress of the International Skating Union (ISU) said that the Russian side has never made accusations against representatives of national teams of other countries at events related to the world of politics.
The ISU Congress has started in Phuket (Thailand). Sviridov spoke ahead of delegates’ vote on the possible withdrawal of Russian representatives from participation in the elections and the meeting itself due to the situation in Ukraine.
– We came here to discuss figure skating issues, not political and geopolitical issues. From a human point of view, we sympathize with all those who suffer in all conflicts. The representatives of our federation have never blamed the athletes, the officials for what is happening in the political world, because they cannot do anything about it. Athletes are not concerned.
We support the statement of the ISU Council (on admission to participate in the congress – approx.). No matter how you vote, we will continue to do our job, support our athletes, give them the opportunity to compete. This is what we have to take care of. We do not participate in disputes, our goal is to continue to develop figure skating,” Sviridov said at the congress.
Subsequently, the congress voted against the withdrawal of Russian representatives from participation in the ISU meeting and elections.
