Russian representatives allowed to participate in ISU congress and elections, Ukraine’s proposal was not accepted

Delegates of the International Skating Union (ISU) rejected the proposal of the Ukrainian side not to allow representatives of Russia and Belarus to participate in the organization’s congress and elections, the vote took place Monday.

48 members of Congress voted in favor of the proposal of the Ukrainian side, 55 were against, 13 abstained. For a positive decision, it was necessary to obtain 78 votes in favor. As for participation in the elections, the situation was as follows (54 for, 46 against, 16 abstentions).

In addition, representatives from Poland, Canada and Finland spoke out against Russian participation in the congress and in the elections. Switzerland has requested a secret ballot.

The Russian side was represented by the representative of the Russian Figure Skating Federation Sergey Sviridov and the General Secretary of the Russian Skating Union Ksenia Shantseva.

The ISU Congress in Phuket will last until June 10.
