“We can always protect ourselves, but the ROC must work through our neutral status” – Yolanda Chen

World Athletics Champion Yolanda Chen on the air of the program “There is a theme!” on said the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) should work out in detail the neutral status in which Russian athletes may have to perform.

Earlier, IOC chief Thomas Bach told AP News that he opposes political influence on sport and stressed that Russian athletes should not be treated as bearers of collective guilt.

The IOC Executive Board will consider the issue of admitting Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions on March 28, the meeting will last three days, and a press conference will be held at the end of each.

— Thomas Bach developed his own strategy. He brings us back slowly. We have to win. And we are associated with Russia. In 2020 (due to the pandemic during competitions – approx.) There were no fans, and we easily accepted a neutral status. Now everyone is extremely worried because now no one can tame the fans. No one can stop them from doing anything.

In the Soviet years, wherever we went, there were always provocations. You don’t have to be afraid of it. We can always protect ourselves. But our ROC should determine our neutral status,” Chen said on .

Earlier, the International Fencing Federation (FIE) Congress decided to send Russian and Belarusian athletes, teams and officials back to international competitions.
