Double Olympic medalist Ekaterina Lobysheva told that instead of speed skating, she could pursue a career in badminton.
– Since childhood I was a very mobile child and tried to try my hand at different sports. And then one day, by pure chance, I came to badminton. I walked past the yard, where there was a practice session, and looked around. The coaches treated me very well and predicted that I could win many medals, but my love for speed was the deciding factor. Therefore, I made the right choice at that time – I switched to speed skating.
After finishing my great sports career, I discovered by chance that my acquaintances were engaged in badminton. My partner once suggested me to go to the competition in pairs, but then we didn’t take high places, but I enjoyed seeing how many people like this game and lead a healthy life”, said Lobysheva on the airwaves of the program “Faces du Pays” on the channel.
Lobysheva won two bronze medals at the 2006 and 2014 Olympics in the team event. In addition, the 38-year-old is a 20-time Russian champion, European champion and World Championship silver medalist in speed skating. She ended her sports career in March 2019.
