The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has said that the issue of admitting Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the next Olympics will not be discussed at the organization’s executive committee meeting this week.
The Executive Committee will be held from March 28 to 30, the results of the consultations on the status of Russians and Belarusians will be discussed on the first day.
– The current discussions and the next meeting of the IOC Executive Committee do not concern the participation of athletes with a Russian or Belarusian passport in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris or the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan. This decision will be made in due course.
Recommendations to international federations on the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international competitions under their auspices in the coming months are currently under discussion.
The Olympic Summit, held in December 2022, asked the IOC, as the leader of the Olympic movement, to find a way to return athletes with Russian or Belarusian passports to international competitions this year in a status neutral.
The IOC has held consultations with the Olympic Movement over the past four months, and these consultations are still ongoing.
Previously, IOC chief Thomas Bach had opposed political influence on sport and any proposal to treat Russian athletes as bearers of collective guilt. In January, the IOC announced that it might consider allowing Russians and Belarusians, who did not come out in favor of the CBO, to compete in a neutral status.
