The International Biathlon Union reiterated its principled position on the aggressor countries.
The IBU will not return Russian and Belarusian biathletes to competitions next season. This decision will not be affected even by the recommendation from the IOC.
The International Biathlon Union has already stated that they paid attention to the message of the Olympic functionaries, but after that they will not change their principled position in relation to the aggressor countries.
“The IBU has noted the new recommendations of the IOC on the neutral participation of individual athletes with Russian or Belarusian passports in international competitions and will carefully consider them.
The IOC also signaled that IFs should consider these recommendations in the context of their sport.
As for biathlon, the IBU congress made a very clear decision last September not to allow any Russian or Belarusian athletes or officials to participate in our international competitions, including non-sporting events organized by the IBU, until circumstances change.
Of course, for a long time, the IBU is open to dialogue on how to reintegrate Russian and Belarusian athletes into our competitions, but due to the current situation in Ukraine, the reasons that led to the congress’s decision are still valid well and it is not yet. it’s time to reconsider this solution,” the organization said in a statement.
