“The bear killed the moose cow and buried her on the road. The biathletes screamed and ran away from there. Kugaevsky remembered the history of the stadium in Uvat

Head coach of the national team of the Tyumen region Maxim Kugaevsky told that the Uvat stadium, where the marathons as part of the PARI Russian Biathlon Championship will take place, has a rich history.

The men’s 40km race will take place on Wednesday at the Alexander Tikhonov Biathlon Center in Uvat. The women’s 30 km will take place on Thursday.

– The men of the Tyumen region team will run here almost in full force: Alexander Povarnitsyn, Evgeny Garanichev, Vadim Istamgulov, Andrey Vyukhin, Igor Shitko, Vyacheslav Maleev. Among women, only Victoria Slivko and Ksenia Schneider.

– Many thought about whether to go here or not. Why did so many people on your team make a positive decision?

– We offered the guys to withdraw from the competition, but no one accepted. We are on our territory, this is our home, we hold training camps here, this is our traditional base and the place where the Tyumen Biathlon began. Here in 1996 we held the first gathering, where there was a small shed and nothing else. There wasn’t even a shooting range. Shoot at paper targets. Lots of grouse used to live here. I remember how, from the first training session, we sent the girls on the track, and right here, 200 meters from the base, a bear killed a cow moose, finally, and buried her. The girls came running back screaming (laughs). Absolutely wild places were.

Many of our famous biathletes started here. For example, Andrey Makoveev, he is from Tobolsk. Here he began to practice biathlon, taking a rifle in his hands for the first time. Evgeny Garanichev ran his first biathlon race here. If we talk about competitions, then here in Uvat great athletes always came – there was a good atmosphere and excellent prizes. After the season, people came here to draw a car. A place with a rich history, in a word, – said Kugaevsky “”.

will broadcast both starts live. Shows begin on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8:40 a.m. Moscow time.
