Sofia Prosvirnova, after the Beijing Games, married Danish skater Viktor Torup, put her career on a one-year hiatus. On Tuesday, she announced that she would play for the Danish national team. But this is not the only change in her sports career for her. Sophia decided to try her hand at long track.
– Do I understand correctly that Viktor did not have the opportunity to train in Russia, and you have to train in Denmark and play for the Russian team?
Yes, we considered several options. But Viktor is not allowed to train in Russia, and it is simply impossible for me to train abroad and compete for Russia. It’s impossible according to the rules, we had some guesses about it that it could happen. And we made a joint decision.
– Ho are you doing? After the Olympics, it took you a long time to recover.
— The season was winding down. I did not participate in any competition. I had to reboot psychologically, relaunch my career. I hope this restart will do me good and that the results will only grow. I tried myself on a big track.
– I can only judge by social networks, but have you tried yourself on a long track? Am I wrong?
– Indeed, it is so, most likely this season I will try it.
– Combine?
No, only there. In short track, if it doesn’t work suddenly, I will always have time to come back, I don’t think there will be any problems with that.
– What are the rules for the transition now?
– An application is submitted to the Danish Skating Union – there we have already approved the transition. We are now awaiting confirmation from the Russian Skating Union. Then you fill out the questionnaires and send them together with the response of the Russian Skating Union to the ISU. You need to get a response from them.
If the transfer is approved, then this season I can compete in Denmark.
Do you hope for understanding in relation to this decision?
– I really hope they will understand me, they won’t hold grudges. It was really a difficult decision. I explained everything in my message. After the Beijing Olympics, I didn’t consider this option, I didn’t think about it all year. Already now, when there is no other way out, we began to consider this option. I hope the people who have supported me will understand and continue to support me in my performance.
– Do you miss the girls on the team? You had your own party there.
– Yes, of course I miss you. I recently saw Emina Malagić. Happy for the position of Zhenya Zakharova. We had a good team, it’s a shame we can’t play with this group anymore. But you have to know how to let go and move on.
