Biathlon World Champion Anton Babikov said “” that its acceleration at the marathon finish line does not indicate the distance forces, if the distance was longer, it may cause injuries to athletes.
Babikov on Wednesday became the third in the 40 km race as part of the PARI Championship of Russia. The victory was won by the athlete of the KhMAO-Yugra team Nikita Porshnev.

– Even before the start, I thought that everyone who had already entered the start was a big guy. Many, realizing they wouldn’t be fighting for the top spots, raced anyway and reached the finish line. I think this is a valid result. I had no idea going down early because I was walking high. Yeah, it wasn’t all fun, including the slide, but everyone was going there and it was hard on everyone, so I fought until the end.
– Judging by the struggle at the finish line, it seemed that those 40 km were not enough for you and could you still?
– Acceleration does not speak of forces at a distance, but yes, you could still run, but that would turn into torture, where you could already hurt yourself: after all, the presence of a rifle affects the back. It’s not easy to run such a distance with a weapon on your back.
Did it improve after changing skis?
– Here, it’s not. I expected that after changing the skis, the glide would improve and that we could catch Nikita, but the opposite happened: after each descent, we were informed that the the gap increased. Didn’t feel a good jolt after changing skis but nothing, many have had this issue.
– In general, you came here for nothing?
– Of course, not in vain. And it’s not just because I won a medal, but just because it’s a really good experience,” Babikov said.
